Host a Fabulous Haunted Soiree With These Spooky Tips

Halloween parties bring out the kid in all of us. They are some of the most memorable gatherings we will get to throw all year. This is not the time to simply plop down and nosh on treats; use the decorations and drinks to give the guests a good scare. The following simple yet spooky tips will help you turn a plain soiree into a haunted house party and make the guests feel right at home.

  • Use an eerie entry to lure guests into the Halloween party

Small touches on the entryway go a long way to creating a scary yet a fun experience for the guests as they arrive. Consider illuminating the front path by creating a trail of candlelight, set out gourds or pumpkin decorations, bury spooky decorations in the planters or hang haunted wreath to give the guests a good scare as they arrive. Don’t forget to play some scary music!

  • Set up an eerie scene as well

Select one of the rooms, like the dining room, to decorate and create a mysterious mood by turning the overhead lights off and using lamps instead. Light candles and queue a Halloween playlist on Spotify. Also, ensure the guests have sufficient room to dance and move around.

  • Prepare for your special guests

Unfortunately, sometimes Halloween parties are attended by even uninvited guests. To ensure you are well prepared for extra friends, have more than enough tableware. Be sure to stock all the basics such as wine glasses, other drink glasses, appetizer plates, flatware, and napkins. To be able to use the extra utensils even after the party, stick to the simple colors such as black and white.

  • Serve a bewitching buffet

Serving a buffet allows the guests to enjoy an all-night-long-snack. Plan a simple Halloween menu like popcorn, spiced nuts, roasted pumpkin seeds, devils on horseback as well as mini pumpkins filled with dips. You can also wrap prosciutto around breadsticks or turn mozzarella balls into eyeballs then stuff them with olives. Group the similar items together and arrange haunted platters and bowls to give the table a spooky look.

  • Allow the guests to “pick their poison”

Set up a self-service station for drinks with fake labels for the liquor and wine like Embalming Fluid and Blood.  Generally, a self-service option is not only fun but it also gives you a chance to mingle with the guests. Also, set out extra Halloween inspired drinks like grape eyeballs or licorice sticks and add dry ice to the concoction to create a cauldron inspired punch.

  • Create a candy bar

Arrange dessert with bowls of sweet treats and classic Halloween candies. You can make ghosts with meringue or cupcakes with chocolate spider webs. For a more scary option, glaze a chocolate cake with raspberry syrup and remember to set out baggies for the guests to fill with their favorite candies when going home.

  • Create a simple photo booth to capture the costumes

To do this, you will only need a good camera and a tripod. Provide props, hang a backdrop, set the timer and allow the guests to snap away.
